Plan Ahead

Planning Timeline

Your Pre-Trip Checklist

Disney rewards planners. Knowing when to book dining, rides, and extras can be the difference between a table at Be Our Guest (MK) and a hot dog from a cart. Here's the general timeline every Disney guest should know.

📅

As Soon as You Book

Day 1

Download the My Disney Experience app, link your reservation and park tickets, and add all guests in your party. The earlier everything is connected, the smoother everything else goes.

🍽

Dining Reservations Open — The 60+10 Rule

60 Days Before Check-In at ~6:00 AM ET

Disney Resort guests can book dining for their entire stay (up to 10 nights) all at once on this single morning. Off-site guests must book one day at a time, exactly 60 days before each individual dining date. This “60+10” advantage means Resort guests can lock up Be Our Guest (MK), Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), and Space 220 (Ep) well before off-site guests can reach those same dates. Have your full restaurant list ready the night before — the most popular spots fill within minutes of 6:00 AM.

💳

Final Payment

Typically 30 Days Before Travel

Most Disney vacation packages require final payment 30 days before your arrival date. Your travel agent will confirm your specific deadline. Late payments may result in cancellation of your reservation.

🧳

Online Check-In

60 Days Before Arrival

Complete online check-in through the MDE app to select your arrival window, add payment, and request room preferences. This helps Disney prepare your room and can get you in faster on arrival day.

Lightning Lane Booking Window Opens

7 Days Before Check-In at 7:00 AM ET

Disney Resort guests can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass and pre-select up to 3 rides per day starting 7 days before check-in — for their entire stay (up to 14 days). Off-site guests must wait until 3 days before each park visit. Set an alarm: 7:00 AM ET on your booking day is highly competitive, especially for Tier 1 attractions. By summer 2026, Single Pass for top rides has been selling out before 9AM on the first booking day.

🎢

Lightning Lane Single Pass

7:00 AM Day of Park Visit

Individual Lightning Lane passes for top-tier attractions (Rise of the Resistance (HS), TRON, Avatar Flight of Passage (AK), Guardians) also go on sale at 7:00 AM for Resort guests. These sell out fast — prioritize the one you want most.

🏰

Early Theme Park Entry

30 Minutes Before Park Opens — Every Day

One of the best perks of staying on property. Disney Resort guests enter every theme park 30 minutes before the official opening time, every single day of their stay. Use this time wisely — the most popular rides have the shortest waits right now.

Check-Out Day

11:00 AM Standard Check-Out

Resort check-out is at 11:00 AM. You can still use parks and resort amenities (pools, dining) after check-out while luggage is held at bell services. Disney transportation runs from 45 minutes before park opening until 1 hour after park closing — so there's no need to rush back early in the evening.

🏨

Online Check-In & Arrival Day Tips

Before You Arrive

Complete online check-in through the MDE app before your trip. On arrival day, check-in officially begins at 3:00 PM — but you can arrive any time. If your room isn't ready, head straight to the pool, explore the resort, or enjoy the amenities. Your room will come to you. Once it's ready, you'll receive a text with your room number and a link to the resort map. You can also check readiness under My Plans → Reservation Details → scroll to Room. Use the app to unlock your room door — no key card needed. And don't forget you can use Disney MagicMobile (under the ☰ menu) to enter the parks directly from your phone.

📸

Screenshot Everything

As You Book

Disney's app technology can be glitchy. Every time you complete a booking — dining reservation, Lightning Lane selection, or resort reservation — take a screenshot of your confirmation screen and number. Having that photo in your camera roll is your insurance policy if anything disappears from the app. This one habit has saved many a vacation.

🌧

Pack Ponchos — And Learn to Love the Rain

Florida Packing Essential

Florida is surrounded by water, showered with it often, and not shy about it. Pack ponchos for everyone — they're far more practical than umbrellas in a theme park. Here's the secret though: some of the shortest wait times happen during rain showers, because guests panic and leave. Find a covered ride or duck into a shop, wait it out, and enjoy shorter lines when you emerge. Dancing in the rain at Disney is genuinely magical.

Play Disney Parks — Turn Wait Time into Play Time

The My Disney Experience app is just one of two apps worth downloading. Play Disney Parks is a separate free app that transforms wait times into adventures — and it's genuinely one of the best-kept secrets at Walt Disney World. Download it before you leave home.

🎮

In-Queue Games While You Wait

At select attractions, the Play Disney Parks app unlocks interactive games you can play right in the standby queue. Instead of staring at your phone, you're competing with your family in Disney-themed mini-games tied to the attraction's story. It makes a 45-minute wait genuinely fly by.

Star Wars: Datapad — Galaxy's Edge (HS)

When you enter Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (HS), the app transforms into a Star Wars Datapad. Kids and teens can interact with droids, scan cargo crates, tune into transmissions, and translate Aurebesh signs throughout Black Spire Outpost. It turns the entire land into an immersive game.

🦆

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure (Ep)

At EPCOT's World Showcase, the app becomes a DuckTales adventure — kids join Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby on a quest to find 7 Lost Magic Treasures hidden across the international pavilions. It's an incredible way to get kids excited about walking through all 11 countries.

🧠

Disney Trivia for the Whole Family

The Play Disney Parks app also features Disney trivia you can play anywhere — in line, at the resort, or even at home to build excitement before the trip. Great for competitive families and a natural conversation starter with Cast Members who love to play along.

📲 Download Both Apps Before You Leave Home

My Disney Experience is your planning and logistics app. Play Disney Parks is your fun and games app. They work side by side — and having both downloaded, logged in, and explored before arrival means zero time wasted on park day.

Dining Guide

📅 How to Book Your Dining Reservations

Resort guests enjoy the "60+10" advantage — on the morning your window opens (60 days before check-in), you can book dining for your entire stay all at once. Reservations technically open at 6:00 AM ET, but many guests are in the app by 5:45 AM for the hardest-to-get spots like Cinderella's Royal Table or anything with fireworks views.

In the app, tap the + circle in the bottom nav → "Check Dining Availability" → select your party size, date, and time. Once you see your confirmation screen — take a screenshot immediately. Disney's tech can be glitchy and having your reservation number saved as a photo is your insurance policy. (Same goes for your resort confirmation and Lightning Lane bookings!)

You can view all your plans under Upcoming Plans → My Day, or through the hamburger menu → Future Plans. And remember — you can mobile order quick service right in the app to skip the counter line entirely!

Character Dining

Character meals are one of the best ways to guarantee quality time with Disney characters without chasing them around the park. These are especially worth it for younger kids — the characters come to your table.

🐭

Chef Mickey's — Contemporary Resort

Breakfast, brunch, or dinner with Mickey and Friends in the Contemporary Resort's grand dining room — with the Monorail passing overhead! A personal favorite: consider doing a later breakfast here on your departure day. It's a magical, emotional way to close out your trip rather than just packing up and driving off.

👑

Akershus Royal Banquet Hall ⭐ — Norway, EPCOT

Located right next to Frozen Ever After (Ep), this is a personal top pick. A rotating cast of princesses visits every table — usually 4–5 different ones throughout your meal. Yes, the Scandinavian-inspired menu is a little different than your typical Disney fare, but the princess experience is completely worth it. One of the most underrated character meals on property.

🏰

Cinderella's Royal Table — Inside the Castle, MK

Dining inside Cinderella's Castle is a bucket-list experience. Princess characters visit throughout the meal and the theming is stunning. This is a signature dining experience requiring full pre-payment at booking. It's one of the hardest reservations at Disney — be in the app at 5:45 AM on your opening day.

☀️

Topolino's Terrace ⭐ — Riviera Resort

A highly recommended spot — two experiences in one. Breakfast is a character meal with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy dressed as French artists — gorgeous views from the rooftop. Dinner is a non-character, intimate Italian dining experience with those same beautiful rooftop views. Book whichever fits your schedule — both are wonderful.

🌿

Tusker House — Animal Kingdom

A breakfast and lunch buffet with Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy dressed in safari gear. The African-inspired buffet is genuinely delicious and one of the better character meal menus on property. A great choice if you're spending a full day at Animal Kingdom.

🎬

Hollywood & Vine — Hollywood Studios

Breakfast and lunch feature Disney Jr. characters (Minnie and friends in seasonal costumes). A solid choice for families with younger children spending a day at Hollywood Studios. The food is buffet-style and the character rotation is lively and frequent.

🌱

Garden Grill — The Land, EPCOT

A slow-rotating restaurant above the Living with the Land (Ep) attraction — you literally circle the living greenhouse as you eat. Chip, Dale, and friends visit your table. The farm-fresh menu features produce actually grown in the greenhouse below. A sweet, low-key character experience that doesn't require an early-morning sprint to book.

Table Service Favorites

These are a mix of personal favorites and client-loved spots. Always check the menu before booking — everyone's palate is different! Reservations are highly recommended for all of these.

Restaurant Location Notes
Be Our Guest (MK) Magic Kingdom Prix fixe dinner inside the Beast's enchanted castle. The West Wing alone is worth it. Not a character meal — the Beast appears sporadically at dinner. Signature dining.
Liberty Tree Tavern (MK) Magic Kingdom Colonial American atmosphere in Liberty Square. Comfort food done well — roast turkey, pot roast, mashed potatoes. Great for families who want a hearty, no-fuss meal.
Tony's Town Square (MK) Magic Kingdom Lady & The Tramp-themed Italian restaurant right on Main Street. A convenient, classic spot — good for pasta lovers and a relaxing mid-park-day break.
Skipper Canteen (MK) Adventureland, MK Jungle Cruise-themed dining with a fun, punny menu and great theming. One of the easier MK reservations to snag — or check the walk-up list.
50's Prime Time Café (HS) Hollywood Studios A retro diner where the "family" servers scold you for elbows on the table. Comfort food (meatloaf, pot roast) in an adorably campy setting. Great for teens who can handle the banter.
Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (HS) Hollywood Studios You eat in a "car" at a drive-in movie theater watching vintage sci-fi clips. Super cute concept and beloved by adults — note that the movie clips can be intense for very little ones.
San Angel Inn ⭐ (Ep) Mexico, EPCOT A personal favorite. Sit inside a dimly lit Mexican pyramid beside a river, with a night sky overhead and a volcano in the distance. Atmospheric Mexican cuisine that feels like you've actually left Florida. Enchanting for a date night or a special evening.
Rose & Crown (Ep) UK, EPCOT A classic British pub in the World Showcase with outdoor patio seating along the World Showcase lagoon. Request a patio table for incredible IllumiNations or fireworks views. Fish & chips, shepherd's pie, and a great beer selection.
Le Cellier Steakhouse (Ep) Canada, EPCOT A signature steakhouse tucked into a castle cellar setting. The cheddar cheese soup is legendary — order it. One of EPCOT's most popular and hardest-to-book restaurants.
Teppan Edo (Ep) Japan, EPCOT Teppanyaki-style dining where chefs cook at your table. Fun, interactive, and a hit with kids and adults alike. The Japan pavilion is one of the World Showcase's most beautifully detailed stops.
Biergarten (Ep) Germany, EPCOT An Oktoberfest-style communal beer hall with live German music, traditional food, and a festive atmosphere. You're seated with other guests — perfect if you love meeting people and cold beer.
Space 220 (Ep) EPCOT

Immersive "orbiting" dining experience — you ride an "elevator" to a space station restaurant with views of Earth below. Incredibly creative theming. Sells out within seconds of the 60-day window.

💡 Insider tip: Skip the full dining reservation and eat at the Space 220 Lounge instead. The lounge is walk-up only (no reservation needed), serves the full appetizer and cocktail menu, and gives you the same out-of-this-world atmosphere and Earth views — at a fraction of the cost and without tying up a dining reservation slot. Perfect for couples and adults who want the experience without the full prix fixe price tag. Walk up during off-peak times (late lunch, early evening) for the shortest wait.

Yak & Yeti (AK) Animal Kingdom Asian fusion in a beautiful, intricate Himalayan-themed space. One of the best table service menus in Animal Kingdom. The honey chicken is a crowd-pleaser.
Boma (AK) Animal Kingdom Lodge An African-inspired buffet at one of Disney's most stunning resort hotels. Worth the trip off-park just for the atmosphere and menu variety. Breakfast and dinner options.
California Grill ⭐ (Resort) Contemporary Resort Rooftop restaurant on the 15th floor of the Contemporary with stunning views of Magic Kingdom. Time your reservation around fireworks and they'll pipe in the audio as you watch from above. One of the most memorable dining experiences at Walt Disney World.
Steakhouse 71 (Resort) Contemporary Resort A more relaxed (and more accessible) alternative to California Grill in the same building. Retro 1971-inspired menu with solid steaks, cocktails, and a great brunch option.
Whispering Canyon Café (Resort) Wilderness Lodge A rowdy, interactive dining experience where servers play pranks, races happen in the restaurant, and ketchup bottles have consequences. Order the "all-you-care-to-enjoy" skillets — massive portions of BBQ meats, corn, potatoes, and more. One of the most fun dining experiences on property, especially with kids and teens.

Disney Springs

Disney Springs is free to enter and a great option for evenings when you're not in the parks. Parking is also free. Here are a few personal favorites:

🍗

Chef Art Smith's Homecoming

Southern comfort food done right — fried chicken, biscuits, deviled eggs, and sweet potato pie. Warm, casual, and genuinely delicious. One of the best value-for-money meals in all of Disney Springs.

🍝

Maria & Enzo's Ristorante

Upscale Italian in a converted 1930s airport terminal. Beautiful theming, great pasta, and a lively atmosphere. A step up for a special evening without the theme park price tag.

The Edison ⭐

A personal favorite. Industrial-chic atmosphere inside a converted power plant — great cocktails, shareable appetizers, and live entertainment most evenings. Perfect for adults who want something sophisticated and fun. One of the coolest dining atmospheres at any Disney destination.

Quick Service Picks

Quick service is how many Disney families stay moving through the parks without losing an hour to a sit-down meal. Mobile order through the MDE app — skip the counter entirely and just pick up when it's ready. Personal quick service favorites:

🌮

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn ⭐ (MK)

Solid Tex-Mex in Frontierland with a legendary toppings bar — load up for free with sautéed peppers, onions, mushrooms, and more. A personal favorite for keeping the family fueled without slowing down.

🔥

Flame Tree BBQ ⭐ (AK)

Open-air waterfront seating with smoked meats and gorgeous views of Expedition Everest (AK). One of the best quick service experiences anywhere on property. A personal go-to every Animal Kingdom trip.

🍜

Satu'li Canteen ⭐ (AK)

Avatar-themed counter service in Pandora with fresh, healthy bowls you can customize. Consistently one of the most underrated quick service spots at Walt Disney World and a personal favorite at Animal Kingdom.

🌭

Rosie's All-American Café ⭐ (HS)

A personal Hollywood Studios staple — classic American burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches in a colorful outdoor setting on Sunset Boulevard. Quick, easy, and always satisfying between big HS rides.

🍍

Aloha Isle — Dole Whip (MK)

The Raspberry Swirl Dole Whip is an absolute must. Find Aloha Isle tucked in Adventureland near the Tiki Room. Get the swirl — you won't regret it. One of the most iconic snacks in all of Walt Disney World.

🍫

Mickey Rice Krispy Treat — Everywhere

The giant Mickey-shaped Rice Krispy treat drizzled in chocolate is sold at snack carts throughout the parks. It's shareable, photogenic, and absolutely delicious. Look for it at Adventureland and Fantasyland carts in MK especially — and be ready for the reaction photo!

🥐

Sleepy Hollow (MK)

Funnel cake waffles with sweet or savory toppings, right near the Liberty Square bridge. Perfect mid-morning snack that most guests walk right past. One of MK's hidden gems.

💡 Pro tip from your planner: My family loves doing quick service for most of our stay to keep moving through the parks. Table service meals are magical, but you don't need one every day — mobile ordering a great quick service meal and heading straight back to the fun is sometimes the best Disney strategy of all.

Know Before You Go

Park Tips & Strategy

Make the Most of Every Day

🌅

Arrive Early — Every Time

Be at the park entrance 30–45 minutes before official opening. As a Resort guest, use Early Theme Park Entry to ride the most popular attractions with minimal waits. Rope drop is the single biggest strategy at Disney World.

📱

Watch the Wait Times App

Use the My Disney Experience app's live wait times constantly. Waits often drop dramatically during parades, shows, and the dinner hour (5–7 PM). These windows are your secret weapon.

🎭

Watch the Parade at the Start — Not Main Street

Most guests crowd Main Street for the Festival of Fantasy Parade. Instead, claim a spot where the parade begins — at the junction of Frontierland and Adventureland, near Tiana's Bayou Adventure. You'll see it first (right at the 3PM start), the crowds are thinner, there's often shade on the left side of the walkway, and the moment it passes you can head straight into Adventureland for Pirates of the Caribbean (MK) or Jungle Cruise with near-zero waits. Arrive 20–30 minutes early to secure your curb spot.

Screenshot from My Disney Experience app — the hand points to the best parade viewing spot at the Frontierland/Adventureland junction

The parade also clears 30%+ of park guests from active areas — head to your next ride the moment it passes.

💧

Stay Hydrated & Rested

Walt Disney World averages 92°F in summer. Bring a refillable water bottle — free ice water is available at any Quick Service counter. Build in a midday resort break when traveling with kids.

🎆

Book the Fireworks Dessert Party

Skip the 90-minute curb scramble — book the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party instead. You get unlimited desserts, beverages (including beer and wine for adults), and reserved viewing for Happily Ever After. Three options: Pre-Party ($99/adult, $59/child — eat first, then reserved standing in Plaza Garden), Post-Party (same price — watch first, then eat), or Seats & Sweets (~$124/adult, $74/child — seated at Tomorrowland Terrace patio during the show). Book through the MDE app as early as your 60-day dining window opens — these sell out fast. Prices include tax; gratuity not required.

👟

Wear Broken-In Shoes Only

Guests average 8–12 miles of walking per park day. New shoes are a guaranteed way to end a park day early. Comfortable, broken-in sneakers are non-negotiable.

🌧

Don't Fear the Rain — Use It

Florida is known for quick afternoon showers, especially in summer. Pack ponchos (not umbrellas — they're awkward in crowds) and stay in the park when it rains. Most guests panic and flee to shops or their resort, which means the guests who stay get dramatically shorter waits. Find a covered queue or a ride with an indoor portion, wait out the shower, and enjoy some of the best lines of your entire trip. Some of the lowest wait times of any Disney vacation happen during a 20-minute afternoon downpour.

🗺

Plan a Path — Don't Crisscross

Study the park map before you arrive and decide roughly which half you'll tackle in the morning and which half after lunch. A loose plan prevents you from zigzagging back and forth across the park all day — which adds unnecessary miles and wears everyone out. Your feet will thank you. Use the MDE app's map before your trip to get familiar with the layout of each park so nothing feels overwhelming on the day.

First-Ride Priorities

🏰

Magic Kingdom

Rope drop: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (MK) or TRON Lightcycle Run (MK) → Splash Mountain area → Space Mountain (MK). Save Haunted Mansion (MK) and Pirates for afternoon lulls.

🌍

EPCOT

Rope drop: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (Ep) (virtual queue — check at 7AM and 1PM) → Remy's Ratatouille (Ep) → Test Track (Ep) → Frozen Ever After (Ep).

🎬

Hollywood Studios

Rope drop: Rise of the Resistance (HS) or Slinky Dog Dash (HS) → Millennium Falcon (HS) → Tower of Terror (HS). Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is best early morning or after 8PM.

🎉 Hollywood Studios Cavalcade tip: HS features surprise character cavalcades throughout the day — small motorcades with characters cruising down Hollywood Boulevard. Unlike MK's scheduled parade, these aren't announced in advance. The best viewing spot is right beside the Photo Hut / Guest Services building just inside the park entrance on Hollywood Boulevard — characters pass close by and the area is less crowded than the center strip. Keep an eye on the MDE app's Entertainment tab for timing hints.

🦁

Animal Kingdom

Rope drop: Avatar Flight of Passage (AK) is essential first. Then Expedition Everest (AK) → Kilimanjaro Safaris (AK) (animals most active in morning and late afternoon).

🦒 Safari timing tip: Kilimanjaro Safaris is best experienced early morning — the animals are active, the light is beautiful, and the heat of the day hasn't set in. Midday heat sends many animals to shade and out of view. If you can only do it once, rope drop is your best bet. Late afternoon (after 4PM) is your second-best window as temperatures drop and animals become active again.

Hidden gem: Look for the henna tattoo artists tucked around Animal Kingdom — they're a beloved, easy-to-miss experience that makes for a beautiful souvenir you wear home. Kids and adults both love it!

Shopping Tips & Gift Cards

Shopping at Disney World is an experience all its own — from tiny impulse buys at Main Street shops to full souvenir hauls that require an extra bag on the flight home. A little strategy goes a long way.

💳 Use Disney Gift Cards in the parks. This is one of the smartest ways to budget for shopping. Load up gift cards before your trip and hand them to kids (or yourself) as a spending limit. They work at virtually every shop, restaurant, and merchandise location throughout Walt Disney World — in the parks, at the resorts, and at Disney Springs. You can buy and reload them at disneystore.com, Target, and many grocery stores before you leave home.

📱 Use Merchandise Mobile Checkout. At World of Disney in Disney Springs and select park locations, open the MDE app, scan your items, pay on your phone, and show the QR code to a Cast Member on the way out. No waiting in line at the register.

🛍 Ship purchases back to your resort. If you buy something in a theme park, you can have it sent to your resort hotel for free — it typically arrives by the next morning. No hauling bags around the park all day. Just ask any Cast Member at the shop register.

🏬 Save the big shopping for the end. World of Disney at Disney Springs is the largest Disney merchandise store in existence — everything you saw in the parks is there, often with more variety. Save your biggest purchases for a Disney Springs evening so you're not carrying bags through the parks all day.

🎁 Gift Cards

Buy at Target, grocery stores, or disneystore.com before your trip. Work everywhere on property including dining and Lightning Lane purchases.

🏨 Resort Delivery

Buy in a park, ship free to your resort. Pick up at the gift shop the next morning. No heavy bags on rides.

📱 Mobile Checkout

Scan, pay, and go in the MDE app at select locations including World of Disney. Skip the register line entirely.

🛍 World of Disney

The largest Disney store anywhere. At Disney Springs — free entry, free parking, open late. Save big purchases for here.

Lightning Lane Guide

How Lightning Lane Works

As of 2026, Disney's Lightning Lane system has two tiers: Lightning Lane Multi Pass (LLMP), which works like the old Genie+ for multiple rides, and Lightning Lane Single Pass (LLSP), purchased separately for the most popular attractions.

© Polka Dots N' Wishes Travel

⚡ Lightning Lane Multi Pass (LLMP)

  • Resort guests can pre-select up to 3 rides starting 7 days before check-in at 7:00 AM ET — for their entire stay (up to 14 days). Off-site guests book 3 days out
  • Priced per person per day — typically $15–$39 depending on park and date; Magic Kingdom is highest
  • When pre-booking, only one Tier 1 attraction allowed in your initial 3 picks per park per day
  • Best value rides: Haunted Mansion (MK), Space Mountain (MK), Slinky Dog Dash (HS), Soarin' (Ep), Frozen Ever After (Ep)
  • Best value: Haunted Mansion (MK), Space Mountain (MK), Slinky Dog Dash (HS), Soarin’ (Ep), Frozen Ever After (Ep)
  • LLMP now includes complimentary on-ride PhotoPass photo downloads
  • Modify or cancel anytime — availability regularly reopens
  • If you have Park Hopper tickets, you can make LLMP selections at a second park after using your first selection of the day

🎢 Lightning Lane Single Pass (LLSP)

  • Sold individually for the most in-demand attractions — prices can reach 5–5+ per person
  • Resort guests book 7 days out; off-site 3 days out — both at 7:00 AM ET. Top rides sell out before 9AM during peak 2026 dates
  • Limited availability — buy immediately for: Rise of the Resistance (HS), TRON, Guardians, Avatar Flight of Passage (AK)
  • You can only hold one LLSP at a time
  • If sold out, keep checking throughout the day — cancellations regularly reappear, especially after 2PM
  • You do NOT need LLMP to buy LLSP — they are completely separate purchases

💡 Pro Tips

  • Resort guests: set an alarm for 6:55 AM ET on your 7-day booking date — have your party linked and your top picks ready before 7AM hits. This is your biggest competitive advantage
  • The free Standby queue is still your friend — use it for less popular rides while your LL return window counts down
  • Early Theme Park Entry (30 min) does NOT require Lightning Lane — use it to knock out top rides before the general crowds enter
  • When booking in advance, only one Tier 1 ride per park per day is allowed in your initial 3 selections
  • Check the Tip Board in the MDE app for live wait times and remaining LL availability throughout the day
  • If you have Park Hopper tickets, you can make LLMP selections at a second park after using your first selection of the day

Your Digital Magic Wand

My Disney Experience App

App Setup Guide

01

Download Early — And Have Every Adult Do the Same

Download "My Disney Experience" (free) from the App Store or Google Play well before your trip — ideally weeks ahead. Create a Disney account or sign in. This is the command center for your entire vacation. Every adult in your party should have the app on their own phone. If someone gets separated, needs a restroom, or wants to check wait times independently, having the app on multiple devices is a game-changer. Kids and teens will also want it for wait times and the map.

Before you ever set foot in a park, spend time exploring the app at home: browse the interactive map for each park, locate restrooms, first aid stations, baby care centers, and character greeting spots. Familiarize yourself with the layout so nothing feels unfamiliar on park day.

02

Link Your Reservation & Share With Your Group

Go to "My Reservations" and enter your confirmation number to link your hotel and ticket reservation. This unlocks Resort-guest benefits like the 7AM Lightning Lane booking window and mobile check-in. Then use the app's Family & Friends list to connect everyone in your travel party — you can share vacation plans, dining reservations, PhotoPass photos, and more. If you're visiting with extended family or a group, this keeps everyone on the same page without a dozen text threads.

03

Add All Guests & Link Tickets

Each person in your party needs their park ticket linked to their profile before you can make dining reservations or Lightning Lane purchases for the group. Do this well before your trip. Also add a payment method to your Disney account — this lets you pay for food, Lightning Lane, and souvenirs directly through the app, no wallet needed in the parks.

04

Set Up MagicBand+ or MagicMobile

Assign MagicBand+ to each guest's profile, or enable Disney MagicMobile on your iPhone or Android to use your phone as your park ticket, resort room key, and payment method — all in one tap. To set up MagicMobile: tap the ☰ three bars in the bottom right of the MDE app, scroll down, and tap Disney MagicMobile. Follow the prompts to add it to your Apple Wallet or Google Pay. MagicBand+ also lights up and vibrates during select park experiences. Either option works seamlessly; the key is setting it up before you arrive so day one is stress-free.

05

Make Dining Reservations at 60 Days

At 6:00 AM ET, 60 days before your check-in date, the dining reservation window opens for your entire stay. Have your top 3–5 choices ready and book immediately — the most popular restaurants fill within minutes. Once you're in the parks, the app also lets you join walk-up lists at select table service restaurants if you didn't get a reservation. And when your table is ready, you'll get a push notification so you're free to keep exploring instead of hovering by the host stand.

06

Master the Tip Board & Wait Times

The Tip Board shows live wait times, Lightning Lane availability, and show/parade schedules for any park. Switch to list view to instantly sort attractions by shortest wait — less time in line, more time experiencing the magic. The app also lets you mobile order food at quick service locations: order ahead, get a notification when it's ready, and skip the counter line entirely. It's one of the most underused features and one of the biggest time savers in the park.

07

Use the Car Locator — Every Time You Park

After parking at any Disney theme park, open the app and tap the Car Locator card on the home screen. Enter your parking section or let Location Services fill it in. At the end of a long park day, you'll be very glad you did — the parking lots are enormous and every section looks identical after dark. Enable push notifications so the app can remind you where you parked even if you forgot to save it manually.

Disney for Adults

🍷

EPCOT's World Showcase

A grown-up playground. The World Showcase opens at 11AM and is tailor-made for adults — international food, craft cocktails, cultural experiences, and the beloved EPCOT Food & Wine Festival (fall).

🌙

Evening Magic

Adult evenings shine after 7PM. Enjoy dinner at Flying Fish or Citricos, then stroll the Boardwalk. EPCOT's IllumiNations and Magic Kingdom's Happily Ever After are spectacular without kids to wrangle.

🌸

EPCOT Festivals — Don't Miss the Food

EPCOT runs world-class festivals throughout the year — Flower & Garden (spring), Food & Wine (fall), Festival of the Arts (winter), and Festival of the Holidays (December). Each brings outdoor food kiosks with exclusive dishes and drinks around World Showcase. The Pineapple Promenade kiosk at Flower & Garden is legendary — known for its stunning floral cocktails with edible flower garnishes. Check the EPCOT festival calendar before your trip and plan time to graze your way around the lagoon.

🎠

Slow Down & Soak It In

Adults can linger over details kids rush past. Take the steam train around Magic Kingdom, browse the Imagineer artwork in Hollywood Studios, or watch the wildlife on the Kilimanjaro Safari at dusk.

🏊

Without little ones on a schedule, use your resort's pool freely. Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, and Yacht Club offer some of the most beautiful adult-friendly pool scenes at any resort in the world.

📸

PhotoPass Magic Shots

Disney PhotoPass photographers are scattered throughout the parks. Look for the "Magic Shot" locations — they add pixie dust, characters, and effects to your photos in post. Worth every stop.

🐭

Surprise Character Sightings — Use the App!

Beyond official meet-and-greet lines, characters pop up in unexpected places — on balconies, waving from windows, strolling through lands. Open the MDE app and tap the Characters tab (Mickey silhouette icon) to see a live list of where characters are greeting guests right now, with current wait times. Check it throughout the day — some of the most magical moments happen when you stumble upon a character unexpectedly, no line required.

Donald and Daisy waving from a balcony — keep your eyes up! 🦆 Use the Characters tab in MDE to find them.

🏌️

Beyond the Parks

Disney Springs is free to enter and has world-class dining (Morimoto Asia, The BOATHOUSE, Maria & Enzo's). Disney's golf courses are open to all guests and are genuinely beautiful courses.

Disney with Young Children

👑

Character Dining First

For young kids, a character meal beats any ride. Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), Chef Mickey's, and Topolino's Terrace (Riv) guarantee multiple character interactions without chasing them through the park.

🗺️

Magic Kingdom is the Heart

For ages 2–7, Magic Kingdom is a full day — maybe two. It's built for this age group. Fantasyland, the Carousel, Dumbo (MK), and It's a Small World are genuinely magical for small children.

😴

Plan for Rest

A midday break at the resort (noon–3PM) will save your trip. Small children hit a wall. Return to the park refreshed for the evening parade and fireworks — it's worth the logistics.

🎟️

Rider Switch Pass

If one parent must sit out a ride with a small child, ask for a "Rider Switch" pass at the entrance. The waiting parent can ride immediately after, without waiting in line again.

🌈

Festival of Fantasy Parade

The afternoon parade at Magic Kingdom is a highlight for young kids. Claim your spot on the curb 20–30 minutes early near the hub, or near the parade's start in Frontierland for a closer view.

🎁

Keep Expectations Flexible

Young children will surprise you — sometimes a fountain or a balloon makes their day. Follow their lead. The "best" moment might not be any ride, but a surprise character meet in an unexpected spot.

Hotel magic tip: Characters sometimes appear in the resort hotels — particularly at Art of Animation, where surprise meet-and-greets happen in the lobby and common areas. Always keep your eyes open at the resort, not just in the parks. Some of the most precious, unhurried character moments happen right where you're staying.

A surprise Mickey hug at Art of Animation — the moments you can't plan are the ones you remember forever. 🐭

Disney with Teenagers

🚀

Thrill Rides Are the Priority

TRON Lightcycle Run (MK), Rise of the Resistance (HS), Avatar Flight of Passage (AK), Guardians of the Galaxy, and Tower of Terror (HS) are the teen bucket list. Build your Lightning Lane strategy around these.

🌌

Galaxy's Edge Immersion

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is built for teens. Let them build a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop (49–89), customize a droid at the Droid Depot, and fly the Millennium Falcon (HS). This is a highlight memory-maker.

🍕

Let Them Navigate

Give teens ownership: let them manage the app's Tip Board, pick the next ride, or choose the quick service spot for lunch. Autonomy is the magic ingredient for keeping teenagers engaged.

🎭

After-Hours Events

Disney After Hours events (separately ticketed) are an underrated teen experience — smaller crowds, lower wait times, and a different energy in the parks at night. Check availability before your trip.

🛍️

Disney Springs Downtime

Teens often love a Disney Springs afternoon — no park tickets required. World of Disney is the largest Disney store anywhere, and there's great food, AMC movies, and unique shopping to explore.

📸

Content Creator Moments

Teens who are into social media will love the photo spots. The purple wall in EPCOT, the castle at golden hour, Galaxy's Edge aesthetics, and the Boardwalk at night are all genuinely photogenic.

Park Scavenger Hunts

How It Works

These scavenger hunts are completely optional — but seriously fun. Each image below is sized perfectly to save as your phone wallpaper. Set it as your lock screen before you enter the park and your list is always one swipe away.

The goal? See who in your group can find everything first. Bragging rights only — it's all in good fun! This is especially great for keeping teens engaged and exploring beyond the rides. Nothing lights up a group quite like a little friendly competition in the middle of Fantasyland.

📸 Pics or it didn't happen. Snap a photo of each find as your proof — no cheating allowed! And when you nail that shot, tag us — we love seeing your magical moments and share our favorites.

The Wizarding World Awaits

Universal Orlando Add-On

Three parks. Three worlds of wonder. Whether you're a Muggle discovering magic for the first time or a seasoned witch or wizard returning to Hogsmeade, Universal Orlando Resort is the perfect complement to your Disney vacation.

🎟 2026 Ticket Tip

In 2026, 3-Day Park-to-Park tickets are the best value — they include Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, AND Epic Universe with full park-hopping on every day. This is also the only way to ride the Hogwarts Express between Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Ask your travel planner about add-on ticket packages to include Universal alongside your Disney vacation.

Universal's Islands of Adventure

Home to two of Florida's most acclaimed roller coasters and the original Hogsmeade, Islands of Adventure is the thrill-seekers' paradise of the resort. Most guests consider this their single favorite Universal park.

🏰

Hogsmeade — The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The iconic snow-capped village where the magic of the books comes to life. Wander Hogsmeade's cobblestone streets, sip a Butterbeer (frozen is the move), visit Ollivanders wand shop, and cast spells at interactive locations scattered throughout the village. The backdrop of Hogwarts Castle rising above the rooftops is breathtaking. This is where the journey begins.

🦕

Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Consistently voted the #1 theme park ride in the world. You ride in Hagrid's motorbike (or sidecar) through the Forbidden Forest, encountering magical creatures at every turn. The storytelling, theming, and surprises on this ride are unlike anything else at any park anywhere. Get there at rope drop — waits regularly hit 2+ hours. A Lightning Lane Single Pass is available.

🎢

The Incredible Hulk & VelociCoaster

Two of Florida's best steel coasters sit in this park. The Hulk launches you 0-40 mph in two seconds through seven inversions. VelociCoaster (Jurassic World) is the newer beast — a top-hat element at 155 feet and 70 mph with four inversions makes it a universal fan favorite. Both are front-of-the-line worthy on their own.

🕷

Marvel Super Hero Island

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man remains one of the best dark rides ever built. Doctor Doom's Fearfall, Storm Force Accelatron, and the Hulk coaster round out this Marvel-packed island. Great for families with kids of all ages who want superhero immersion without intense thrills.

Universal Studios Florida

The original Universal park in Orlando, Studios is where movies come to life — from Diagon Alley to Springfield to Minion Land. It's also where you catch the Hogwarts Express if you have a Park-to-Park ticket.

🐉

Diagon Alley — The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The hidden gem of Universal. Enter through the brick wall in London, and emerge into Diagon Alley — Gringotts Bank, Knockturn Alley, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, and the fire-breathing dragon atop Gringotts. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is a spectacular multi-sensory dark ride. Stock up on Butterbeer, Firewhisky, and every sweet from Sugarplum's.

🟡

Minion Land & Despicable Me

The newly expanded Minion Land replaced the old Shrek area and is a hit with younger kids and families. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a fun simulator ride, and the outdoor Minion Land area has interactive meet-and-greets, character-themed food, and photo ops galore.

🎬

Horror Make-Up Show & Hollywood

The Universal Horror Make-Up Show is one of the best live entertainment offerings at any theme park — genuinely funny, surprisingly educational, and great for teens. The Hollywood area also has a fantastic Revenge of the Mummy coaster (indoor, in the dark) that surprises guests every time with its backwards launch ending.

🍩

Springfield — Home of the Simpsons

The Simpsons Ride is a hilarious simulator that puts you inside the show's world. Beyond the ride, Springfield is a fully realized land — grab a Duff Beer from Moe's, eat at Krusty Burger, and explore every reference-packed corner of this absurdly detailed area.

Universal Epic Universe

The newest and most technologically advanced theme park in the world, Epic Universe opened in May 2025 and features five immersive worlds arranged around the stunning Celestial Park hub. Plan a full day here minimum.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic

The third and most technologically advanced Wizarding World. Set in 1920s Paris and the British Ministry of Magic, this land features Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry — a next-generation ride blending screen, projection, and live effects unlike anything in the other parks. The streets of Paris at night are astonishing. Fans of Fantastic Beasts and classic HP lore will be in their element here.

🍄

Super Nintendo World

Power up your Power Band and compete for coins across the entire land — every corner is interactive. Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge uses AR glasses and screen-blending technology for an immersive race you can't find anywhere else on the East Coast. Donkey Kong Country adds a thrilling mine-cart coaster. The most innovative land in any American theme park.

🐉

How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk

A beautifully realized Viking village filled with dragons at every turn. Hiccup and Toothless' world is immersive and family-friendly — the signature Hiccup's Wing Gliders coaster soars over the island. The Viking Training Camp play area is ideal for young children. One of the most emotionally resonant new lands in theme park history.

🧟

Dark Universe — Classic Monsters

A gothic horror world celebrating Universal's classic monster legacy — Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, and more. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment is a multi-launch coaster through a monster-filled laboratory. Brilliant for teens and adults who want something darker and more atmospheric than the other worlds.

🚂 Don't Miss: The Hogwarts Express

With a Park-to-Park ticket, the Hogwarts Express runs between Hogsmeade (Islands of Adventure) and Diagon Alley (Universal Studios Florida). The journey is different in each direction — both are unique experiences, not just transport. This is one of the most immersive experiences in all of theme park history and an absolute must-do for any Harry Potter fan.

Experiences & Activities

🐬

Dolphin Swim — The Signature Experience

The heart of Discovery Cove. In a small group of no more than 8 guests, you'll wade into the warm lagoon and spend 30 minutes with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins — touching, playing, and getting a dorsal fin tow through the water. Children must be 6+ and 42" tall. No strong swimming ability required — the interaction takes place in waist-deep water. Most guests describe this as the single most emotional experience of their entire Orlando vacation. Dolphin Swim Package: ~$320–$450/person (seasonal pricing).

🐠

The Grand Reef — Snorkeling

A one-million-gallon saltwater habitat teeming with thousands of tropical fish, Southern stingrays, cownose rays, and nurse sharks. The rays are docile, curious, and will brush right up against you — most guests spend far longer here than they planned. The reef is artificially crafted but so realistic you'll forget you're in a theme park. This is the #2 experience at Discovery Cove even for guests who don't do the dolphin swim.

🌊

Wind-Away River — Lazy River

A gentle river that flows through the entire resort — from open sun and white sand beaches, through a lush aviary where tropical birds fly freely around you, and into an underground cave system with underwater viewing windows into the Grand Reef. Life vests are provided and required. It's the best way to drift between everything else at your own pace.

🦜

Explorer's Aviary — Bird Feeding

A free-flight tropical aviary where colorful birds land on your arms, shoulders, and head while you walk through. You can purchase nectar cups to feed them directly. It sounds simple — it is absolutely delightful. The aviary also sits along the Wind-Away River path, so you'll drift through it naturally as part of your day.

🏖

Serenity Bay — Beach & Pool

A large resort pool and beach area at 85°F, ringed by white sand, palm trees, and waterfalls. The place to sun, relax, and slow down between the more active experiences. Loungers are provided at no charge — claim yours early. Cabanas are available as a premium add-on for families who want dedicated shaded space.

🌿

Freshwater Oasis

A warm freshwater pool inhabited by otters and marmosets who live in the adjacent habitat areas. Guests wade in the warm water and watch the animals play in their natural surroundings just feet away. A surprisingly magical corner of the resort that most guests stumble upon and end up staying at much longer than expected.

Packages & Pricing

Day Resort Package

$200–$280

Collect. Trade. Repeat.

Pin Trading at Disney World

What Is Pin Trading?

Pin trading is one of Disney World's most beloved unofficial pastimes — and one of the best ways to interact with Cast Members in a totally unexpected way. The concept is simple: you buy Disney enamel pins, wear them on a lanyard or bag, and trade them with Cast Members or other guests throughout the parks.

Almost every Cast Member wearing a pin lanyard is open to a trade. All you have to do is ask — and they almost always say yes with a smile. It's one of the most magical small interactions you can have at Disney World, and kids absolutely love the thrill of the swap.

Pin trading boxes like the one pictured are set up at resort gift shops, some restaurants, and merchandise locations throughout the parks — open chests full of pins you can browse and trade from, no Cast Member required.

How to Get Started

📌

Buy a Starter Set Before You Go

You can buy Disney pin starter sets on Amazon or at your local Disney Store for much less than park prices. Pick up a set of 5–10 pins before your trip so you're ready to trade from day one. Look for "official Disney trading pins" — these are the same pins Cast Members will accept. Knockoff or "scrappers" (non-official pins) are discouraged and some Cast Members won't trade them.

Pin trading boards are set up throughout the parks and resorts — large displays covered in pins you can browse and trade from any time, no Cast Member needed. Kids love hunting through them for just the right swap!

Pin trading boards like this one are found throughout the parks and resort gift shops — always worth a browse!

🎽

Get a Lanyard

A pin lanyard is the classic way to display and carry your collection through the parks. Disney sells them at most gift shops, or you can bring your own. Kids especially love wearing their growing collection around their neck — it becomes a conversation piece and a way to document the trip. Bags with pin-friendly fabric panels are another popular option.

🤝

The Trading Rules

The official rule is simple: Cast Members must trade with you as long as you have an official Disney pin and they have a lanyard. You can trade up to 2 pins per Cast Member per interaction. You don't have to "like" the pin you're trading — every swap is a mystery. That's half the fun! Always approach Cast Members politely and be ready to show your pin clearly.

🏰

Trade With Cast Members AND Other Guests

Pin trading happens everywhere — shop registers, resort front desks, restaurant host stands, and wandering Cast Members throughout the parks. But don't overlook fellow guests! If you spot someone wearing a lanyard, it's completely acceptable — and encouraged — to ask for a trade. Some of the best swaps happen spontaneously in queue lines, near the parade route, or outside a fireworks show. The pin trading community at Disney is incredibly friendly and welcoming.

Guests trading pins with each other — one of the most spontaneous and magical interactions at Disney World.

👧

Perfect for Kids (and Teens!)

Pin trading gives kids a mission in the park beyond rides and food — they're on the hunt for specific characters, limited edition pins, or just the best-looking trade they can find. It's also a wonderful icebreaker between shy kids and Cast Members. Many Cast Members love pin trading as much as the guests do and will share fun stories about their own collections.

💡

Pro Tips

Set a "pin budget" before the trip — it's easy to fall down the rabbit hole at park prices ($10–$25 per pin). Stock up on bulk starter sets before you go for better value. If your child has a "must-have" character, buy that pin ahead of time rather than hunting for it in the park. And always check the pin trading chest at your resort gift shop — hidden gems turn up there regularly.

📌 Did You Know?

Disney has released thousands of unique pin designs since the program launched in 1999. Some limited edition and retired pins are highly collectible — worth hundreds of dollars to serious collectors. You never know what you might find in a trading chest. The thrill of the hunt is part of what makes pin trading so addictive!

An Elevated Experience

Club Level at Disney Resort Hotels

Club Level — or Concierge Level — transforms a Disney resort stay into something truly extraordinary. From the moment you arrive, the experience is different in every way that matters.

Next-Level Service

Club Level guests aren't just checking into a room — they're being welcomed by a dedicated concierge team who knows their name, their reservation, and their trip. Upon arrival, a Club Level concierge will personally escort you from the lobby to your private lounge level and then to your room, handling everything along the way.

Your Club Level concierge team can assist with dining reservations, Lightning Lane strategy, special occasion arrangements, itinerary advice, and anything else that comes up during your stay. They are Disney experts with access to resources regular guests don't have — and they genuinely love helping families create magical moments.

This is the difference between a great Disney trip and an unforgettable one.

The Club Lounge

The Club Level lounge is a private, resort-exclusive space available only to guests on your floor. It's open throughout the day with rotating food and beverage presentations — meaning you can step in before heading to the parks, during a midday break, or in the evening after fireworks. For many families, the lounge alone transforms the economics of the trip.

🌅

Continental Breakfast

Start every park day in the lounge with a spread of pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereals, juices, and hot coffee — all included. A quiet, relaxed way to fuel up before heading out, without spending $25/person at a resort restaurant breakfast.

🥗

Midday Snacks & Lunch Items

Light lunch items, finger sandwiches, fresh fruit, and snacks rotate through the lounge midday. Perfect for a quick resort break refuel without paying table service prices — or for feeding kids who aren't quite ready for dinner.

🍷

Evening Reception — Appetizers & Drinks

Each evening, the lounge hosts a full appetizer spread with wine, beer, and cocktails for adults. This is often the highlight of the Club Level experience — come back from the parks, unwind with drinks and food, and decompress before heading out for fireworks or calling it a night. Significantly reduces dining costs for the evening.

🍰

Desserts & Cordials

A nightly dessert service with sweets, chocolate, and after-dinner drinks caps the evening. A wonderful way to end a long park day without having to trek to a restaurant for dessert.

Additional Club Level Perks

🛎

Dedicated Concierge Team

Your Club Level concierge can book dining reservations, arrange special room requests, help with Lightning Lane strategy, plan itineraries, and coordinate surprises for special occasions. They're on your side in a way the general resort team simply can't be.

🏨

Premium Room Locations

Club Level rooms are typically on dedicated floors with better views — many with park or pool-facing vistas, or at Wilderness Lodge, views of the beautiful pool and geyser area. You're getting a better room in a better location as part of the upgrade.

🚪

Private Lounge Access — Keycard Only

The Club Level floor is accessed by your room keycard only. No crowds, no strangers wandering through — just your fellow Club Level guests. The lounge feels like a private retreat inside the resort, a genuine escape from the bustle of the parks.

💰

The Math Actually Works

Club Level commands a premium over standard rooms — typically $150–$300+ more per night depending on resort and season. But when you factor in what you're receiving — continental breakfast daily, midday snacks, evening appetizers and drinks, nightly desserts, and concierge services — many families find the lounge food alone offsets a significant portion of the upgrade cost. For families who would be paying for breakfast and evening apps anyway, it's often a wash or a win.

🎂

Special Occasions

Club Level is the ideal base for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons, or milestone trips. Your concierge can arrange in-room decorations, custom cakes, character calls, and other magical surprises — often with more success and personal touch than the standard resort team can deliver.

📍

Which Resorts Offer Club Level?

Club Level is available at: Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, BoardWalk, Yacht Club, Animal Kingdom Lodge (Kilimanjaro Club), and Beach Club. Each lounge has its own character and theming — ask your travel planner which best fits your resort choice and travel style.

✨ Ask Your Planner About Club Level

Club Level availability is limited and books early — especially at the most popular resorts. If you're considering the upgrade, mention it early in your planning process. Your travel planner can help you compare the value at different resorts, find the best room categories, and make sure you get the most out of every lounge visit.

No Car? No Problem.

Getting Around Disney World

One of the greatest perks of staying on Disney property is that you never need to rent a car or call a rideshare to get to the parks. Disney's transportation system is extensive, free, and frankly kind of magical in itself.

⏰ Transportation Hours

All Disney Resort transportation begins 45 minutes before park opening and runs until 1 hour after park closing. You will never be stranded. Disney runs buses until the parks are empty — you might wait a few extra minutes on a busy closing night, but a ride will always come.

🚌 Disney Resort Buses

The bus system is the backbone of Disney transportation — free, continuous, and connecting every resort hotel to all four theme parks, Disney Springs, and the water parks. Buses run every 20 minutes on average and pick up directly at your resort's dedicated bus stop.

🏰

Goes To

Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon — direct from your resort stop. No transfers needed for theme parks.

💡

Good to Know

There are no direct buses between resorts — if you need to get to another hotel, transfer through a theme park or Disney Springs. Park-to-park direct buses run between all four parks starting around 10AM. Use the MDE app for real-time bus tracking and arrival estimates.

🚝 The Monorail

Disney's monorail system is one of the most recognizable transportation systems in the world — and riding it is genuinely part of the Disney experience. Three separate lines connect Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and the monorail resort hotels.

🏰

Resort Monorail

Loops between the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC), Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, and Contemporary Resort — with a stop at Magic Kingdom. Runs 7AM to 1 hour after MK closing. The scenic way to arrive at Magic Kingdom.

🚀

Express Monorail

Runs non-stop between the TTC and Magic Kingdom. Fastest monorail option if you parked at the TTC and want to reach Magic Kingdom quickly. Begins 30 minutes before MK opening.

🌍

EPCOT Monorail

Connects the TTC directly to EPCOT. Runs 30 minutes before EPCOT opening until 2 hours after EPCOT closes — the longest-running monorail line. Great option if you're at a monorail resort and heading to EPCOT.

💡

Ask for the Front Cab!

When boarding the monorail, ask a Cast Member if you can ride in the front cab — you'll get a stunning driver's-eye view of the entire route. Kids absolutely love it and it's one of those small Disney magic moments that costs nothing extra.

🚡 Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner gondola system is one of the most underrated additions to Walt Disney World in years. Free aerial gondolas connect select resorts to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios with stunning bird's-eye views of the resort. Riding it is an experience in itself.

🏨

Resorts Connected

Caribbean Beach Resort (main hub), Pop Century, Art of Animation, Riviera Resort. If you're staying at one of these, you can skip the bus entirely for EPCOT and Hollywood Studios days.

🎡

Goes To

EPCOT's International Gateway entrance (enters through the back of World Showcase — a fantastic entry point) and Disney's Hollywood Studios. The ride between Caribbean Beach and Hollywood Studios has beautiful views of the whole resort.

🎆

Pro Tip: Ride During Fireworks!

One of the most magical hidden experiences at Walt Disney World: time your Skyliner ride from EPCOT to align with IllumiNations or the EPCOT fireworks show. Watching the fireworks explode over the World Showcase from a gondola in the sky is absolutely breathtaking — and you're moving, so no crowds to fight.

⚠️

Weather Closures

The Skyliner closes during lightning storms and high winds — Florida afternoons can trigger this without much warning. Always have a bus backup plan if you're counting on the Skyliner for a specific showtime or dining reservation. The buses will cover the route when the gondolas are down.

⛵ Boats & Water Taxis

Disney operates several boat routes that are relaxing, scenic, and genuinely enjoyable — especially after a long park day. They're slower than buses but often worth it for the experience.

🏰

Magic Kingdom Ferry

The classic ferry boats cross the Seven Seas Lagoon from the TTC to Magic Kingdom. A beloved tradition — standing on the bow as the castle comes into view for the first time is one of Disney's most iconic arrival moments. Runs alongside the monorail as an alternative option.

🎬

EPCOT ↔ Hollywood Studios

Friendship boats run along the Crescent Lake waterway between EPCOT's International Gateway, Hollywood Studios, and the BoardWalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club resorts. A beautiful 15-minute cruise — perfect for the trip between parks or after an EPCOT dinner.

🌿

Wilderness Lodge & Fort Wilderness

Water taxis connect Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and the Magic Kingdom area resorts. A peaceful, woodsy boat ride that's especially lovely at dusk. Great option if you're visiting Wilderness Lodge for a meal or just exploring the resort area.

🚗 Rideshare & Other Options

📱

Uber & Lyft

Both work throughout Disney World property and are often the fastest option for resort-to-resort travel (no transfers needed). For Magic Kingdom, note that rideshare drops off at the Transportation & Ticket Center — you'll still need the monorail or ferry to reach the park entrance. Budget 15–20 minutes for most resort-to-resort trips.

🚐

Minnie Van

Disney's own rideshare service, operated through the Lyft app, uses polka-dotted vans driven by Disney Cast Members. They can drop you directly at the Magic Kingdom entrance (bypassing the TTC) — a major time saver. More expensive than standard Lyft but the Cast Member experience and direct MK access make it worth it for special occasions or rainy nights.

Something for Everyone

Height Requirements & Family Tips

The great news: the vast majority of Disney World rides have no height requirement at all. Even babies and toddlers can experience a huge amount of the magic. Here's everything you need to know before you go.

Measure at Home First

Knowing your child's height before your trip saves surprises — and disappointment — at the ride entrance. Measure them in the shoes they plan to wear in the parks, since Disney measures with shoes on. If your child is borderline, the specific shoes they wear on park day can make a real difference.

Here's a Cast Member trick worth knowing: get your child measured at the very first height-required ride of the day. If they meet the requirement, Cast Members will give them a colored wristband that's valid all day — no re-measuring needed at subsequent attractions with the same or lower requirement.

And don't overlook the Rider Switch program — if one parent must sit out a ride with a child who doesn't meet the height requirement, ask a Cast Member for a Rider Switch pass. The waiting parent can ride immediately after, without waiting in the standby line again. It's free and available at every height-restricted attraction.

The rides without height requirements include some of Disney's most iconic experiences — Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, Jungle Cruise, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Toy Story Mania, Remy's Ratatouille, and dozens more. Even baby-wearing guests are welcome on most Disney attractions. Always check the specific attraction listing in the MDE app for the most current guidelines.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin (MK) — no height requirement, open to all ages including lap-sitting toddlers! 🚀

Tips for Families with Mixed Heights

🔄

Rider Switch — Use It!

At any height-restricted attraction, ask a Cast Member for a Rider Switch pass before one parent waits with the child. After the first adult rides, the second adult can ride immediately without waiting in the full standby line. Both parents get to experience the ride and no one misses out.

👟

Shoes Matter for Borderline Heights

Disney measures guests with shoes on. If your child is right on the edge, wear the thickest-soled shoes they own. Measure at home in those exact shoes before your trip so you know what to expect — no surprises at the gate.

🏅

Get the Wristband Early

Head to the first height-restricted ride early in the day. If your child passes measurement, the Cast Member will give them a color-coded wristband that's valid all day for rides with the same or lower requirement. One measurement, all day access.

👶

Baby-Wearing Guests

Guests wearing infants in carriers can ride most Disney attractions — always check the specific ride's guidelines in the MDE app. Strollers must be left outside all attraction entrances. Disney provides stroller parking at every ride. You're welcome to leave belongings in the stroller — Cast Members watch the area.
