Three Perfect Ways to Spend

choose your adventure
Here are three options for your trip based off of the dates July 7-12, 2026. Make sure you notice — two of them are both Montana mountain getaways, so they're similar in setting but very different in feel and price. Big Sky is the splurge: luxury, Lone Peak right outside your window, Sapphire Collection-level finishes, and a private hot tub. Teton Valley is the cozy, laid-back version — a charming farmhouse with open valley views, a hot tub AND a sauna, a gas fire pit, and some of the most spectacular stargazing you will ever experience in your life. If you want something completely different, Option 1 is a stunning ocean-view townhome in Oceanside, California, steps from the Pacific — and just an hour from Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland, with Universal Hollywood about 90 minutes up the coast. All three sleep your group of 6 comfortably and are quoted for July 7–12, 2026. Read through, see what speaks to you, and let me know!

Day Trip Add-Ons Worth Planning
Southern California at your doorstep
Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge — Disneyland
About 60 miles south, Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge is the most immersive theme park land ever built — a full-scale Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. Fly the Millennium Falcon on Smugglers Run (you pilot it — for real), then board Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance for one of the most spectacular ride experiences in Disney history. Build your own custom lightsaber at Savi's Workshop or your own droid at the Droid Depot. Oga's Cantina serves otherworldly drinks in an atmosphere straight out of the films. Plan for a full day — you'll want it.
Universal Studios Hollywood
About 80 miles up the coast, Universal Hollywood packs an incredible day. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a must, but the real show-stopper right now is the Super Nintendo World, where you literally step inside a video game with interactive wristband play. The Studio Tour remains one of the most unique experiences in LA — you ride through actual working sets and behind-the-scenes movie magic. The Horror Make Up Show and Jurassic World ride round out an unforgettable day. Book early — lines for Nintendo World are no joke.
LEGOLAND California
Just 20 minutes from Oceanside in Carlsbad, LEGOLAND is ideal for families with kids aged 3–12. The park features rides, LEGO build zones, water attractions, and a Miniland USA that recreates iconic American cities entirely in LEGO bricks. Combine with the attached Sea Life Aquarium for a full day. Best of all, it's the closest major theme park to the house.
San Diego Zoo & Safari Park
Consistently ranked among the world's top zoos, the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park is about 40 minutes south. The Safari Park in Escondido (closer to Oceanside) offers open savanna safaris where you're right alongside giraffes, rhinos, and African wildlife with almost no barriers. Both are full-day experiences, and combo tickets are available. The Safari Park's Cheetah Run is truly breathtaking.
SeaWorld San Diego
About 45 minutes south on the shores of Mission Bay, SeaWorld San Diego features thrilling roller coasters alongside marine life encounters — dolphins, orcas, sea turtles, and penguins. Emperor, their brand-new floorless dive coaster, has been getting incredible reviews. Electric Ocean evening events in summer transform the park with neon lights and live entertainment after dark.
Old Town San Diego & the Gaslamp Quarter
For a no-theme-park day, Old Town San Diego offers California's oldest neighborhood with incredible Mexican food, margaritas, and historic adobe buildings. The Gaslamp Quarter nearby is 16 blocks of Victorian architecture, rooftop bars, and some of San Diego's best restaurants. Easy Amtrak or COASTER train ride from Oceanside — skip the parking entirely.
Stargazing Near Oceanside
Southern California's coastal light dims as you head inland — and some spectacular dark sky spots are within easy reach of the house.
Palomar Mountain
~1 hour inland. Home to the famous Palomar Observatory. The mountain sits above the marine layer and offers genuinely dark skies. Public star parties are hosted by the San Diego Astronomy Association on select Friday nights.
Anza-Borrego Desert
~2 hours east. California's largest state park and an International Dark Sky Park. The Milky Way is staggeringly visible here in summer. Combine with a sunrise desert drive for an epic overnight adventure.
Cleveland National Forest
~1.5 hours. Descanso and the Laguna Mountains offer dark, quiet skies. The Laguna Campground sits above 6,000 ft elevation — cooler temps and much less light pollution than the coast.
If you choose Big Sky or Teton Valley
Montana Stargazing is Next Level
some of the darkest skies in the lower 48
Montana's wide-open skies and minimal light pollution make both mountain properties extraordinary for stargazing — no driving required. Step out of the hot tub and look up.
Right From the Property
Both Big Sky and Teton Valley sit in valleys with minimal surrounding light. On a clear summer night the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye directly overhead — no equipment needed.
Yellowstone After Dark
Yellowstone National Park holds an NPS Night Sky Program. The park's geysers lit by moonlight, combined with nearly zero light pollution, make for a surreal evening. Just 45–60 min from both properties.
Gallatin National Forest
Surrounding Big Sky, the Gallatin Forest offers high-elevation meadows with 360-degree open sky. Drive up past the treeline on a clear night and you'll understand why Montana is called Big Sky Country.
