People ask me all the time: "Is Disney Cruise Line really worth the price?"

My answer?

If you're looking for waterslides and the lowest cruise fare, there are plenty of great cruise lines to choose from. But if you're looking for the kind of vacation your family will still be talking about years later, Disney Cruise Line is in a league of its own.

I've sailed Disney solo, with the girls, and with my own family… and there's a reason it's one of my favorite vacations to recommend.

Is Disney Cruise Line Worth the Cost?

Let's address the biggest question first. Yes, Disney Cruise Line is often priced higher than other family cruise lines. But it's important to look at what you're actually getting, not just the price.

Disney Magic Isn't Just for Kids

Disney doesn't simply put Mickey Mouse on a ship. Every lounge, restaurant, hallway, show, and activity is intentionally designed to tell a story. Whether it's the Grand Hall, hidden Disney details throughout the ship, or hearing the ship's horn play Disney melodies, the magic is woven into every part of the experience. It's one of those things that's hard to explain until you experience it yourself.

A Vacation Where Everyone Is Happy

One of the things I love most about Disney Cruise Line is that everyone gets their own vacation. Kids have incredible youth clubs. Teens have their own hangouts. Adults have quiet pools, lounges, upscale dining, coffee shops, and the spa. Nobody feels like the vacation revolves around someone else. My boys actually begged for more time in the Oceaneer Club, which gave my husband and me a chance to enjoy a little quiet time together.

Entertainment That Rivals Broadway

I've seen a lot of cruise entertainment over the years. Disney's production shows are still some of my favorites. From Broadway-caliber musicals to deck parties, fireworks at sea (on most Bahamian and Caribbean itineraries), first-run Disney movies, and live entertainment throughout the ship, there's always something happening. Even if you don't normally attend cruise shows, I'd encourage you to give these a chance.

Rotational Dining Is Brilliant

Disney does dining differently. Instead of eating in the same dining room every night, you'll rotate through several uniquely themed restaurants. The best part? Your serving team rotates with you. By the second evening they usually know your favorite drink, your kids' food preferences, and sometimes even have dessert waiting before you ask. Watching our servers interact with our boys each evening became one of our favorite parts of the cruise.

Disney's Island Destinations

Many Disney itineraries include visits to Disney's island destinations in The Bahamas:

• Castaway Cay

• Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

Both are exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests, so they never feel uncrowded. Whether you're relaxing on the beach, biking the island, floating in the turquoise water, or snorkeling (my personal favorite!), these stops are often the highlight of the entire cruise.

Character Experiences Without the Stress

Meeting Disney characters feels completely different onboard. Instead of racing across a theme park or waiting in long lines, you'll find characters throughout the cruise in a much more relaxed setting. Many guests even run into their favorite characters multiple times during the sailing. It creates some incredibly special moments.

Holiday Sailings Are Extra Magical

If you love celebrating holidays, Disney does them exceptionally well. Halloween on the High Seas brings themed decorations, special entertainment, costumes, and unique character appearances. Disney Very Merrytime Cruises transform the ships into floating Christmas celebrations complete with festive décor and holiday entertainment. These sailings are some of my favorite times to cruise.

Adults Aren't Forgotten

A lot of people assume Disney cruises are only for families with young children.

Not true.

There are adults-only restaurants, quiet pool areas, elegant lounges, coffee bars, and one of my favorite places onboard...the spa. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, sailing with friends, or simply want a little peace and quiet, there are plenty of spaces designed just for adults.

Service That Feels Personal

Disney has built its reputation on exceptional service, and the cruise line is no exception. Crew members genuinely seem to enjoy getting to know your family. By the end of the cruise, don't be surprised if they remember your children's names, your favorite drink order, or exactly how you like your coffee. After night 1, I never had to specify that I like my sodas with no ice— they remembered! Those little touches are what keep guests coming back.

Safety Gives Parents Peace of Mind

As a parent, this mattered to me more than I expected. Disney's youth clubs have secure check-in and check-out procedures, and younger children receive a DisneyBand+ to access the youth clubs and help streamline their experience onboard. I wasn't sure how comfortable I'd be leaving my boys in the kids' clubs. By the second day, they were asking to go back...and I felt completely at ease letting them.

My Final Thoughts

I've sailed several cruise lines, and they all have something they do well. But Disney Cruise Line has a way of making every member of the family feel like the vacation was designed just for them.
